Ron Meyer was a city councillor and trade union leader. He has been director of the National Programme Heerlen-Noord since 1 April 2022. This programme is a cooperation of the national government, municipality, housing corporations, educational institutions, health insurer, residents and many others. This cooperation aims to improve living conditions in one generation, so that it no longer matters whether a child is born in Heerlen or elsewhere in the country. In 2021, he published the book 'De onmisbaren' (The indispensable), which he himself described as an ode to his social class.
